Green With Antiques
Green your home with antiques!

You have taken great care to find eco-friendly paint and wallpaper as well as bamboo flooring that does not destroy world forests; why not an all natural oak desk with original brass hardware - made in the Grand Rapids, Michigan in the early 20th century, or a solid walnut dresser, hand crafted in New England in the late 1900s? Neither has a large cardboard box or plastic packing that will end up in the landfill.

When considering its environmental footprint, the mark of an antique is very small. Antique furniture is organic - trees that produced these vintage classics did not rely on harmful chemical fertilizers to grow. That 130 year old antique pine cupboard is not giving off toxic fumes into your home environment. Furthermore, treated with respect, this wonderful piece of furniture can be handed down to your children and grandchildren.

Repair, Recycle in style!

Going green doesn't mean you replace everything in your house but remember that antiques have long lasting style and can be repaired and recycled for years. From the kitchen to the living room, bedrooms and even the garden, antiques are perfect choices when it comes to durability and style.  Before it was fashionable, antique lovers have been recycling everything from furniture, books and baskets to clothing, jewelry and dinnerware.

Re-purpose an oak ice box and you have a wonderful liquor cabinet which will be a great topic of conversation as well as reliable storage. A vintage office desk, bookcases and file cabinets set a solid tone for your business.  How about a primative tool box that was fashioned from scraps of lumber back when schools were one room ? Years of use have only added to its character and today makes a great display for your houseplants!

Antiques definitely are GREEN!

Lifestyle changing, you are downsizing? Moving to a smaller home, need to dispose of some furniture? No problem with your antiques, they recycle nicely. The pieces that have not already been spoken for by family members can be sold for a respectable sum. Antiques are without a doubt a much better investment than their modern pressed board counterparts which end up in a garage sale for a few dollars if they have any use left.
